Strategic
Control
in the
Marketplace |
At
one time, IBM had it. Ford lost it to General Motors, who in turn surrendered
it to Toyota. Now Ford and Toyota wrestle with each other for it.
Apple
almost had it, but Microsoft chose the better strategy and ended up with
it. Avis never had a chance. Hertz grabbed it and never let go.
The
government is reluctant for anyone to have it. They are convinced the power
that it represents will be abused. Since it comes down to being able to
have it your way, the history of human nature being what it is, their anxiety
is reasonable.
After
all strategic control in the marketplace is only one place removed from
monopoly. |
